Synopsis

Parenting means raising and nurturing children, but oftentimes children enrich and enlighten the lives of parents instead.

Chan Tin Mei and Ho Bun’s son passed away abruptly at three years old due to a congenital heart disease. Still in pain over the loss, Mei resists having another child.

One day, Mei finds out that they can become a foster family. Her desolate heart finds sustenance from possibly regaining the feeling of being a mother. But when she discovers the emotional scars on the children caused by their harsh realities, she starts to adjust her expectations.

Bun’s extramarital affair leads to a big fight between the couple, but it also reveals the feelings concealed in Bun’s heart. Mei realizes her selfishness; she has neglected Bun’s feelings and the true needs of her wards. In the end, the foster children inspire her and help the couple to redeem their relationship. Although Mei is praised for her dedication to her foster children, she knows she has been saved by the children instead.

When the couple finally settles into a simple and happy life with their foster child, Mei suffers a heart attack. In the final stage of her life, Mei’s seven foster children reappear. She seems to see her son grow in these foster children.

故事大綱

陳天美（鄭秀文）和何彬（陸駿光）透過莫姑娘（談善言）申請成為寄養家庭，夫婦倆很用心，迎來各有問題的小孩——因母親毒癮而缺乏照顧的文森（黃梓樂）、父母離異被當人球的小菁（李昀蔚）、患有兔唇遭嫌棄的小花（吳祉嶠）、苦苦等待一個家的阿明（趙啓嵐）、與及對成年人失去信任的家希（曾睿彤）家朗（徐嘉謙）姊弟。天美在小孩身上看到了父母、同學、社會造成的傷痕，她用盡方法讓眾人重拾希望，成為大家依靠、好好相處的家人。

別人都讚天美偉大，但她知道，是這班孩子拯救了她。因為一直無法磨滅喪兒傷痛的天美，直到遇上寄養孩子後，她早已掏空了的心才有所寄託，重拾做母親的感覺；本來有缺陷之家，也暫時得到填補。

父母養育孩子，其實很多時候，是孩子拯救了父母。

十三年間，天美醉心於照顧小孩。正當夫婦與快將升上大學的寄養孩子仲恆（劉朝健）過著簡單快樂的時光，卻迎來一場突變。當天美走到人生最後階段時，這七位寄養孩子重現在她眼前，在他們身上，她彷彿看到了自己的兒子已長大成人。一趟流水運送落花的人生旅程，讓生命以另一種方式延續了下去。

Director’s Statement

The most important thing for a director's first feature film is the choice of theme.

Everyone has a family; Everyone is somebody’s child, and some of us are also somebody’s parent. Fortunately, I am both of them, so I wanted to make a film about a topic that I am most familiar with.

I wanted to further explore the relationship between "family" and "parenting". The result is this story of a foster family.

Before filming, I already knew that this is not a social issue film. It is not about how a foster family plays a role in society. It is about how a couple traces the memory of their dead son from their foster children.

When it comes to a film about family, authenticity is of paramount importance. Though this film is not based on a real family, its events do happen to families in both Hong Kong and other places. In that sense, this is a “true” story.

Ultimately, this film is about how life continues. When one’s child is gone, can the love for them live on? I believe so. In this film, the parents’ love for their son live on through other children.

Finally, I would like to say to my fellow new directors: We have all somehow made it this far. Let us encourage each other in our endeavors.

作為一位新導演第一部長片，最重要還是在題材的選擇。

家庭、親情，每個人都擁有過；我跟大家的身份一樣，既是子女，也是父母，於是我把題材放在自己也是所有人最熟悉的題目上。

但我更想進一步探討「親情」和「血緣」的關係，所以有了《流水落花》這部電影，以寄養家庭來說一個一家三口的故事。

拍攝前，我很清楚電影重心，並非放在寄養家庭的理念和社會現狀層面。我希望表達這對夫妻如何透過身邊不停來去的孩子，對自己死去兒子的淡淡思念，探討生命如何延續。

當「血緣」斷了之後，還有可能延續嗎？我相信是有機會的。電影中，兒子生命以另一種方式在別的孩子身上延續了下去，形成一棵「親情」為大的豐盛生命樹。

它的缺陷，令它真實。人生旅程，流水落花，我們都這樣走了過來，共勉之。

Sammi Cheng is a superstar in Asia, renowned as both a singer and actress with over 30 years of experience and more than 40 films to her credit. She showcased her impressive acting range in films like Fagara and Fatal Visit, taking on more complex and layered roles. Her performance in Lost Love earned her the Best Actress award at the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards.

In Lost Love, Chan Tin Mei is a grieving mother who lost her 3-year-old son and is deeply reluctant to have another child. As she becomes a foster mother, she slowly rediscovers the feeling of motherhood. However, her husband's infidelity drives her to emotional turmoil. With the help of the foster children, Tin Mei finally learns the true meaning of love and redemption, helping her heal and rebuild her family.

陸駿光是香港影視界的實力派演員，曾憑2019年港台單元劇《星星的孩子：魚蛋》奪得「2020 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards紐約電影電視節」演員銅獎。陸駿光擅長詮釋情感複雜的角色，並在《流水落花》中首次擔當電影男主角。

在電影中，何彬是陳天美的丈夫，面對失去兒子的悲痛，他選擇逃避情感，逐漸與妻子疏遠。他在處理家庭和婚姻破裂的過程中，不得不面對自己的錯誤，並試圖修復與妻子的關係，找回愛與責任。

Alan Luk is a talented Hong Kong actor known for his emotional depth in various roles. He won the Bronze Award for Best Performance at the 2020 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards for his role in RTHK's Fishball. In Lost Love, he takes on his first leading role in a feature film.

In the movie, Ho Bun is the husband of Chan Tin Mei. Struggling with the grief of losing their son, he chooses to avoid his emotions and becomes increasingly distant from his wife. As their family and marriage begin to crumble, Ho Bun is forced to confront his mistakes and attempt to rebuild his relationship with Tin Mei, rediscovering love and responsibility in the process.

In Lost Love, Tam plays Miss Mok, a dedicated and compassionate social worker. She not only assists Chan Tin Mei and Ho Bun with their foster children but also provides emotional support to Tin Mei as she navigates the overwhelming responsibilities of motherhood and loss. Miss Mok serves as a steady guide, helping the family find their way through challenging times.
